Our Community | Senior High Youth, The Lighthouse
Weavers Youth have merged with Mt. Clinton Youth to form a combined youth group we call the Lighthouse.
Our name comes from both the space we use and also two Bible passages, Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine before men,” and John 1:1-18. John 1:1-5 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Jesus is the light that is true life, who has come into the world. No darkness can overcome the light of Christ Jesus our LORD. We want to ground our faith and all we do as Youth in the light of Jesus. Jesus is the center of our faith, our fun, our worship, our study, our service, and our life together as followers of Jesus and children of God. John 1:12, “To all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
So our space may be called the Lighthouse, but it is not so much about the space as it is the people in it who have chosen to welcome Jesus into their lives. This brings us back to shining our light before the world so that Jesus is seen in us. John 1:18 says, “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is close to the Father's heart, and has made him known.” It is through knowing Jesus that we come to know God, and we hope that in Youth Group young people come to know Jesus, and through Him, come into right relationship with God. We want to not just see the light of Christ but to be transformed into being the light of Christ to the world around us. Thus we ourselves become the Lighthouse, living buildings that hold within us the light of Jesus the Christ, and that light shines out of us leading others safely to God.
We want to be grounded as the Lighthouse in Jesus being the light that has come into the darkness and the darkness will never overcome it. Jesus is the center of all we are and do as the new Lighthouse.
