Outreach | In Our Community
"Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?" The King will reply, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Matt. 25:37-40). |
Weavers Mennonite Women has a long history of using their caring hands to reach out into the world. The women meet the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the Shady Oak Building of Weavers Mennonite Church to make quilts, comforters, prayer shawls, baby blankets, school kits and many other items that can be helpful to those in need. Our primary vision is to help those in need through Mennonite Central Committee headquarters in Akron, PA. An important time for the women is the fellowship lunch at noon when they conduct their business and eat together. Women with willing hands are welcome to join us. In the spring, a tea or meal is provided for seniors.
Each school year Weavers partners with a local elementary school to help provide backpacks full of weekend food for students from families facing food insecurity. Church members individually and corporately provide financial and volunteer support to community agencies such as Gift & Thrift, Our Community Place, The Mercy House, People Helping People, Patchwork Pantry, and the Free Clinic. The congregation provides volunteer hours and food/craft items for the annual MCC Relief Sale held in Harrisonburg every October. Weavers has also acted as a sponsor for a recently arrived refugee family, providing housing, transportation and friendship support through the Church World Service resettlement program. |
Called into God's Family, we join together to be transformed through worship, to nurture one another, to be equipped to serve Jesus Christ, and to carry out His mission in the world. |
